Firstly obviously I’m gutted Costa Rica are out. They were fantastic last night. They put up a real fight to the very end and should be proud of themselves. Also, well done to Holland. Probably the better team on the night and their were small signs of real quality. However, I have a huge issue with this suggestion that Van Gaal is a tactical genius for bringing on Tim Krul for the penalty shootout in which he saved two.
My point is this. Keepers are not expected to save penalties. Therefore if he had saved none no one would have criticised Krul or the manager. It would have been one of those things, but by bringing on a new keeper Van Gaal poor himself in a position where he could be the hero. Taking all the glory away from the players. Our want tactical genius it was an opportunity for him to tabs all the plaudits and credit for a match where the players worked their socks off. This simple case of there being no ‘i’ in team but definately an ‘i’ in Louis Van Gall.
AND who else could I see pulling off a stunt like that? Sir Alex Ferguson. The most self centred man in world football.
I think Van Gaal will fit in very nicely at Manchester United!
